Austenitic SS 317
Austenitic SS 317 is another molybdenum bearing grade and is a modification of grade 316 with increased chromium content, hence better corrosion resistance. Grade 317L is a more widely used alloy in comparison with its predecessor. It has better corrosion resistance than grade 316L and lesser carbon content than grade 317.
The adequate chromium and carbon content in the grade 317L gives it better resistance properties against various media and suitable welding properties without sensitization to intergranular corrosion.
Post annealing, the grade becomes non-magnetic due to its microstructure. However, after welding with similar metals, it might become slightly magnetic.
